Staff Report
A program appearing at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday on Discovery Health, a component of the Discovery Channel, will air scenes filmed at the UNM Hospital.
The program "Birth Day" follows a family from initial labor, delivery and release from the hospital. Mothers who were filmed were selected because their deliveries were unusual births that posed difficulties to either mother or child.
Producers interviewed prospective women after arriving at the hospital to determine if their pregnancies would be considered difficult.
"Over the last five years there have been several medically related films shot at UNMH. Most notably is 'Trauma: Life in the ER,'" said Sam Giammo, director of Public Affairs at the UNM Heath Science Center.
Hospital staff has set up a "World Premier" of the program that will be shown twice to staff and faculty at 3 and 4 p.m. today in the hospital's first floor Administration Conference Room.
