Win or lose, there is always a common denominator at Lobo football home games - the UNM Spirit Marching Band.
M. Miller Asbill, the associate director of bands, is in his second year as director of the marching band. The band will perform four separate programs this year, "Music of the 90's," which has been featured at the first two games this year, a Latin-themed show, a show based on movie theme songs and a Motown-themed performance.
Miller said that UNM's marching band has a long tradition.
"This is the 88th season of the band at UNM," Miller said. "We rehearse a week before school starts and three times per week during the season."
Asbill added that band members come from all different walks of life because a large portion of UNM's students are non-traditional. There are currently 95 members of the band and Miller said most have previous experience in marching bands in high school.
"We recruit some from high school," Miller said. "Or they find us, sign up and join in the summer."

Miller added that potential members are required to be music majors.
"Actually most of our members are not music majors," he said.
He said that the marching band members are offered a $200 stipend for their work.
