Editor,
When I heard that Iraq was willing to let weapons inspectors back into its country, I breathed a sigh of relief.
The foolhardy path of war that the Bush administration had such a hard-on for had at last come to an end. However, after a minute or so, the skeptic inside me thought the president would play down this event and look for another excuse to unleash our weapons of mass destruction upon the land and people of Iraq.
Sure enough, while the rest of the world was applauding diplomatic efforts that could resolve the conflict peacefully, the United States greeted the news with skepticism.
The United States' response should make our motives for aggression perfectly clear. Iraq never posed a threat to U.S. security.
Rather, the war talks were aimed at ensuring a constant supply of oil from the region and as a way of showing thanks to the multinational oil corporations and weapons manufacturers that funded Bush's presidential campaign. Also, Bush Jr. seems to have a vendetta against Saddam, stemming from his father's failed attempt to remove him from power.

Finally, if there was no threat of war, the incompetent administration would have to deal with important things like the economy, health care, institutional corruption and social security, among other things.
