LETTER: Richardson's tactics need criticism, work

Editor,

This short letter is in response to the "Richardson dismayed by low turnout" article on the front page of Friday's Daily Lobo.

Last March, my girlfriend and her roommate attended a Democratic convention in support of Bill Richardson and the Democratic Party. It was held at the Hilton Hotel and to their dismay, instead of issues and concerns being discussed, it was a chance for sleazy, beer-bellied politicians, Richardson included, to hit on and buy drinks for college-aged females.

This is not a letter from a jealous boyfriend trying to hate on some dudes who were hitting on my girl. Rather, it is a letter from a Democrat who was disgusted with the display of unprofessionalism I was told about. I consider this kind of behavior unfortunate and part of the very reason young adults have a hard time getting involved with politics.

I was pleased as I read on through Friday's article and saw that many people in the crowd of Thursday's UNM campaign appearance openly criticized Richardson for concentrating on political strategies such as bumper stickers, yard signs and early voting.

I know that my girlfriend and her roommate won't be attending any campaign appearances in the future and maybe someone should tell Billy that word of mouth travels much faster than bumper stickers.
