Daily Lobo Columnist
I hope that you have been learning a lot about ASUNM through these columns this semester and feel that you have a better understanding of what your student government does and how it works.
Now it is time for you to let us know what you think and see ASUNM in action. We will be hosting an ASUNM Outreach event this Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cactus Garden (on the west side of Zimmerman Library next to the Duck Pond).
All of the ASUNM executive agencies and members of the ASUNM Senate will be there. ASUNM's Special Student Events will be providing live entertainment, ASUNM Craft Studio will have their pottery wheel on site, the ASUNM Lobby Committee will be registering people to vote. We are eager to take this opportunity to answer any questions and listen to suggestions you may have.

It is also very important that you make sure to pick up a Daily Lobo on Wednesday. The past couple weeks the Student Activities Center has been hard at work going through all the chartering packets for student organizations on campus and compiling the "Guide To Chartered Student Organizations."
This guide contains a list of all the chartered student organizations, their officers, contact info and some other helpful information. You can pick up the guide as an insert in the Daily Lobo this Wednesday, Oct. 2, or you can find stacks of them located in the Student Activities Office (upstairs Student Services Center, Room 280) or the ASUNM Office (upstairs Student Services Center, Room 262). The information will also be available on the Student Activities Center Web site (www.unm.edu/~sac).
Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to look up organizations on campus and maybe you will find an organization you would like to join. The guide has listings of organizations that have been on this campus for many years.
UNM has so many things to offer and this could be a chance to broaden you experiences during your college career.
Here at ASUNM we are also getting very excited about the release of the guide because it means that the ASUNM senators will be receiving the contact information for the Student Groups they will represent. Each of the 20 ASUNM senators is responsible for being a liaison to a number of student organizations.
If you are an officer of a chartered student organization you should be expecting to hear from your senate representative very soon. In order to make this contact successful please check your e-mails, voicemails and mailboxes for any correspondence. And the most important thing of all is please respond to your senator. The senators are working hard this semester to increase student outreach and fulfill their duties to the best of their abilities. But in order to do this they need your help. Please respond to them and let them know all about your organizations.
Using your senators' skills by asking them to help you with your ASUNM budget and appropriation requests. And remember to keep them informed by letting them know about events that your organization is hosting on campus. If you tell your ASUNM senator about events you are hosting they can mention them during the full senate meeting and other senators can tell their student organizations about the event. This can be a great way to advertise your events! You can also contact your senator by stopping by the ASUNM office during your senator's office hours.
If you are ever having difficulty communicating with your senator please contact the ASUNM office and we can help get you on track. I hope that this year we are going to be able to increase communication between student groups on campus and I think if you use your senator it will be a great start. Good luck, and we hope to see you on Wednesday.
