Jacquelyne Gallegos and the UNM Men's soccer team are this week's New Mexico Daily Lobo athletes of the week.
Gallegos came in second place at this weekend's Lobo Invitational at the UNM North Golf Course. The sophomore blazed through the 6,000 meter course in 22 minutes and 45 seconds, helped propel the Lobos into second place. Gallegos started in second place and stayed there, trailing only Rachael Cuellar of New Mexico State University.
The UNM men's soccer team earned the other athlete of the week honor by improving to a school-record 6-0 by defeating Cal Poly 3-0 Friday and the University of Evansville 2-1 in overtime Sunday. The team was led by high scoring freshman Ben Ashwill who scored two goals and an assist. The Lobos also got great goaltending from Andrew Weber who scored his second shutout of the season Friday. On Friday the Lobos got goals from Ashwill, Eric Carlson and senior Javier Carrasco in a 3-0 victory over Cal Poly.
