Editor,
Angela Williams sounds as though she has not been keeping up with current events or simply has a hidden agenda. First of all, our "plunging stock market" has actually been on the rise in the last two weeks and more so in recent days. I'll admit the pending baseball strike is troubling, but they are not yet striking as Williams infers, only a date has been set, and a new proposal looks like it may settle the issue before a work stoppage occurs. The economy has taken some hits with recent corporate scandals, but I wouldn't say it is about to become a total disaster as the word "dire" would indicate. This country has been through tougher economic situations and has always bounced back stronger. Things may not be looking up, but it is not time to jump either.
Looking at President Bush's recent approval ratings, it looks as though most reasonable people have moved past the 2000 election controversy and embraced our president in these uncertain times with our country and culture under attack, but not Angela. She longs for the good old days when an obvious murderer (OJ) spent nearly all of his money to escape a guilty verdict, making a mockery of our judicial system and the days when our country was disgraced by sexual acts in the Oval Office.
There has been plenty of good news in recent years, but for Ms. Williams to cite these two incidents as examples of it lacks intelligence.
