Editor,
I want to applaud Don Shapiro's stand against UNM becoming "corporate bed-partners" with Pepsi, published in the July 11 Daily Lobo. I would also like to add a few ironic twists that may not have been considered by some of your readers.
The Pepsi products to be found all over north campus come in plastic bottles, the one substance among the top four recyclables that, as far as I know, UNM makes no effort to recycle.
In addition, each bottle contains approximately 2.5 servings. Is this appropriate for a Health Sciences Center to offer staff and faculty while they engage in research on diabetes and the adverse health consequences of obesity?
As if that were not enough, the Office of the Vice President of the Health Sciences Center has issued several e-mail communications over the last few months reinforcing the Health Sciences Center vision statement and inviting us to take part in a dialogue on the lofty concepts it contains like "integrity."
If I didn't have a sense of humor, I'd absolutely crack.
