Dancer's Dream features numerous ballroom styles

Charin Yuthasastrkosol can't be much more than five feet tall, or weigh more than 90 pounds - but this vibrant woman has a commanding presence when she is in a room. She strolls in dressed flamboyantly and the people around her erupt into a flurry of activity.

Charin Yuthasastrkosol will be starring in the dance performance Charin's Dream at the Kimo Theater, this Sunday, July 21. The performance will include several types of ballroom dancing, including Latin and International and Thai classical dance. Yuthasastrkosol will be performing with the world-renowned Ron Montez, Chatchai Chattong and others. All funds from Charin's Dream will benefit the construction of the Buddhamongkolnimit (Buddhist) Temple in Albuquerque.

Yuthasastrokosol began her career when most people are beginning to slow down. She reportedly started dancing at age 47 when she went to pick up her daughter from a dance class. After joining in on a whim, she began to dance on a regular basis. She mastered all types of ballroom dancing quickly and went on to win more than 300 medals around the world, including the silver medal in the U.S. Ballroom Championships. She now includes Ballet and Thai Classical dance in her repertoire.

This year she is celebrating her 72nd birthday, an important anniversary in Thai tradition, honoring the sixth cycle. The Ambassador of Thailand, Sakthip Kririksh, will be attending the performance.

Tickets for the show are available at Ticketmaster, or at the ticket office of the Kimo Theater and are $17 for adults and $12 for students and senior citizens. Limited V.I.P. tickets, which include a reception at La Posada Hotel following the event, also can be purchased for $100 by calling (505) 269-4541 or (505) 766-5133.
