Staff Report
The UNM women's golf team will go up against some of the best teams in the nation this week after being selected to participate in the NCAA Division I Women's Golf West Regional.
The Lobos' title run in the Mountain West Conference Championship last week automatically qualified UNM for postseason competition. The Lobos won the title for the third straight season by 11-strokes. The regionals take place at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif.
The 24th-ranked Lobos have a school record three tournament victories this year. UNM won the team titles at the 2001 Dick McGuire Invitational, the 2001 Hawaii Fall Invitational and the conference championships.
Under head coach Jackie Booth, the Lobos have advanced to five straight NCAA regionals. Last season UNM advanced to the 2001 NCAA Championships, where it finished 21st.
Conference player and freshman of the year Kailin Downs leads the Lobos, as well as senior Claudia Ferrini.
