University administrators have been busy since the end of the spring term filling several vacant positions in various departments.
Phillip Eaton was named vice president of the UNM Health Sciences Center May 10. Eaton had been the center's interim vice president since 1998. He has been with UNM since 1968 when he joined the University as an assistant professor of medicine. He also has held positions as associate professor; professor of Medicine; professor of Mathematics and Statistics; chief of the division of Endocrinology and Metabolism; vice chairman of research for the Department of Medicine; director of Clinical Research; associate dean of Research; and associate director of the Clinical Research Center.
Teresita Aguilar was appointed dean of Graduate Studies May 24. She will begin her term Sept. 1. Aguilar comes to UNM from California Polytechnic Institute in Pomona, Calif., where she has been associate dean of the College of Education and a professor in the department of Ethnic and Women's Studies. She also has served as chairwoman of the Graduate Program and professor in the Center for Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and as an assistant professor of Leisure Services at the Hispanic Research Center at Arizona State University.
The University also announced May 28 that Camila A. Alire has been named dean of Library Services, beginning Sept. 16. Alire has been a professor and the dean of Libraries at Colorado State University since 1997. She also was dean/director of the Auraria Library at the University of Colorado-Denver from 1991 through 1997.
David E. Pitcher was appointed to assistant dean for clinical affairs at the UNM School of Medicine. Pitcher is a UNM School of Medicine graduate and also completed his residency at UNM.
