Peterson resigns to take over BYU position

Staff Report

The University of New Mexico announced Tuesday that volleyball coach Tom Peterson resigned to accept the men's volleyball head coach position at Brigham Young University.

Peterson, a BYU alumnus who coached the Cougars' club volleyball team from 1984 to 1988, just completed his first year as head coach for the Lobos.

He replaced former coach Laurel Brassey-Iverson. UNM went 5-20, 3-11 in Mountain West Conference play in Peterson's first and only year as coach.

Peterson previously held the head coach position at Utah State University, where he led the women's volleyball team to the NCAA tournament.

He also coached Penn State University to the men's volleyball team to the 1994 NCAA Championship.
