LETTER: Students' concerns second

Editor,

Many people have begun complaining about the raise in tuition and higher rates on everything housing-related. I, myself, have complained even about the fact that I am receiving less financial aid - despite the fact that I'm in debt due to the small amount I received this year.

I do not want handouts, just a fair chance. I know people who have more than a 4.0 grade point average and have participated in many campus events, yet they are having such difficult times coming to school because UNM refuses to work with them.

The reason is unknown. My assumption is it is because UNM cares more for its athletic programs and the administration's cars and houses than for the students trying to learn and apply themselves.

My suggestion is to do things such as write to the Lobo, write to directors and visit with as many people in person as possible. Let's join together and let UNM know how this is affecting us as students.

I refuse to allow my dreams of graduating and making something of myself be shattered just because someone else isn't taking into consideration the affects of their decisions on others' lives.
