Sports in brief

The UNM men's tennis team took home third place in the Mountain West Conference Tournament this weekend in Las Vegas, Nev.

The Lobos opened the tournament by crushing the Air Force Academy 4-0 Thursday. But they could not continue their momentum, losing 4-1 in the semifinals Friday to Brigham Young University, which beat UNM both meetings this season.

The Lobos (17-9) recovered, however, to win the third-place match for the second straight season, beating the University of Utah 4-3 in a hard-fought match Saturday.

San Diego State University won the championship.
