Editor,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the student body for passing Amendment One last Wednesday. I feel confident that the returns this amendment will bring to the students of this University are rewards of great proportion that are difficult to imagine at this time.
Think of the possibilities that lie ahead for every student organization in the future; they will now have more money at their hands to better promote themselves as well as the University by having better events, better conferences, better guest speakers and many other things. Perhaps I should not be thanking the student body but congratulating them.
Some people need to be recognized for their hard work behind the scenes on this project. Former Sen. Grant Nichols who, two semesters ago, was insightful enough to see the need for an increase in student organization funding. Senators Evan Kist and Jason Shaffer who so valiantly went before UNM administrators and defended the fee increase. I also would like to thank Jeremy Jaramillo and his peers at Students Educating Peers About Sex and the Agora Crisis Center.
One of my biggest goals being an ASUNM senator is to find ways in which to ignite the desire of students to get involved any way they can. Students Educating Peers About Sex heard the call to action. That group, along with the Agora Crisis Center, helped campaign for Amendment One.
Not only was I happy to have them helping promote the amendment, I was even more proud to see that they were willing to get involved. It is my wish that all student organizations and even individual students would get involved in the election process at UNM, supporting candidates and amendments that represent their needs the best.

Jeremy Jaramillo has done a phenomenal job as president of Students Educating Peers About Sex. He has brought this organization from the brink of closure to a renewed sense of service. I thank Mr. Jaramillo, Students Educating Peers About Sex and the Agora Crisis Center for their hard work in serving the students of UNM, as well as campaigning for Amendment One.
My fellow Lobos, together we have a bright future. We are making progress by starting with a low tuition increase, Jennifer Onuska as the next ASUNM president and more to be allocated to UNM student organizations.
Remember that we are not done yet. We have a long journey ahead of us, but we are already three steps into it.
