Editor,
It is interesting to note that two recent letter writers have forgotten one important fact: the state of Israel's right to defend itself.
The region is now in it's sixth war, the previous ones being in 1949, 1956, 1967,1973, and 1982.
The first three military actions were initiated by Arab states, and the fifth action was in response to repeated shelling from Lebanon, a terrorist host country.
The current U.S. policy of treating Mr. Arafat as a viable negotiating partner rings hollow. It shows that the United States is probably more concerned with uninterrupted supplies of cheap oil. Neville Chamberlain and appeasement come to mind.
I wonder what Ms. Forsythe would think if she was in a restaurant, or cafe, perhaps in Tel Aviv and a terrorist detonated a bomb near her party, turning her family into red mist, bloody stumps and gore.

It is unfortunate that the average, everyday Palestinians are being treated in such manner, but it is because of the extremists. Those in Hamas, Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad are not freedom fighters; they are terrorists.
