LETTER: A minute can help change UNM

Editor,

I am writing in regard to a grave affliction that has pervaded this campus for quite some time now and has overstayed its welcome. Figuratively speaking, it is a cancer of sorts, one that delves deep into the essential core of this University and renders the indifference of the student body uncontrollable, proliferative and otherwise rampant.

In truth, Editor, I am addressing the pressing issue of student involvement, or more precisely, the lack thereof. During the previous ASUNM election, 1,835 students opted to vote out of a student body population of about 20,000 undergraduates. That's less than 10 percent. Allow me to repeat, Editor, 10 percent.

In some disciplines, 10 percent is hardly even considered a statistical deviation. The ASUNM Election Commission has been working exhaustively to promote ASUNM awareness and a greater constitutive voter turnout. This is our final attempt. To the entire student body: ASUNM is very real and affects all students on this campus.

It is evident from passing out fliers that the majority of you do not know that ASUNM elections are today. We are offering nine polling locations, 17 Senate candidates, two presidential candidates, two vice presidential, one amendment and one opinion poll. All you need to offer is one minute of your time. Be heard. Be known. Vote today.
