The UNM men's basketball team celebrated its 2001-2002 season Thursday night with the annual awards banquet at the Sheraton Old Town Inn.
Eight players earned awards for the Lobos, who finished 16-14 during the season.
Junior guard Ruben Douglas earned the most prestigious award - the Bob King Most Valuable Player. He led the team and the Mountain West Conference in scoring, averaging 18.1 points per game.
UNM's three seniors also took home awards. Guard Eric Chatfield earned the Defensive Player of the Year; forward Pat Kelly was honored with the Unselfish Devotion to the Team Award; and guard Tim Lightfoot was awarded Mr. 3-pointer for his team-high 49 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
Freshmen forwards Jamaal Williams and Chad Bell each received honors. Williams earned the Newcomer of the Year award after leading the fresh faces with 7.7 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Bell won the Mr. Hustle Award.
Sophomore forward Patrick Dennehy received the Mr. Rebound Award after leading the team in rebounds with 7.5 per game. Junior point guard Senque Carey led the team in assists with a 3.1 average to earn the Mr. Assist Award.
