President Bill Gordon announced the formation of a 13-member search committee that will work on identifying candidates for UNM's Office of Equal Opportunity director.

"I'm very pleased with the quality and diversity of the search committee," Gordon said in a University statement. "I've asked them to identify a pool of the best qualified six to 10 candidates, and they've begun this process."

Among other duties, the director develops and implements comprehensive equal opportunity and affirmative action plans for the University and ensures UNM's compliance with all local, state and federal civil rights laws and regulations.

UNM Physical Plant Director Mary Vosevich is the chairperson of the search committee and Gordon's assistant Barbara Carver is the search coordinator.

University faculty committee members are School of Medicine Dean Paul Roth; Mathematics and Statistics Department Dean and Professor Ron Schrader; Law Professor Alfred Matthewson; Anderson Schools of Management Associate Dean Leslie Oaks, who is also a Hispanics for UNM Faculty Senate representative; and Spanish and Portuguese Department Associate Professor Susan Rivera.

UNM staff committee members are Theresa Ramos; Associate University Counsel Jean Bannon; Dispute Resolution Manager Jon Armendariz; Faculty Contracts director Raqui Martinez; and Physician Activity Database supervisor Barbara Galbadon, a School of Medicine and Staff Council representative.

The student representative, Israel Marquez, is a junior majoring in psychology. The community committee member is Margaret Harvey, who is the Office of Equal Opportunity director at the Sandia National Laboratories.
