LETTER: Preventing theft is fine, but pedestrians ignored at UNM

Editor,

Regarding Parking Services' Car Safety Campaign, I think it is just fine UNM wants to inform people how to keep our precious cars safe from thieves. However, what I would like to see is UNM do something to help pedestrians. It's bad enough the entire city is like a war zone for pedestrians but the streets on the UNM campus are just as bad.

A good place to start would be to install some large signs at the entrance routes informing drivers the campus speed limit is 20 miles per hour - it's obvious most are unaware of this - and that pedestrians have the right of way in a cross walk.

Oh, and some fresh paint on those crosswalks wouldn't hurt either, especially on Campus Drive at the northwest entrance to main campus.
