Editor,
The naming of that Suellyn Scarnecchia as the dean of the law school is just another slap in the face of New Mexicans whose tax dollars help support the University of Mexico.
How long will it be before she moves on to another state to a better job as so many faculty members before her have done? When will UNM administrators recognize that hiring New Mexicans might have a positive effect on the status of UNM? The New Mexico candidates are, after all, living here, enjoying the quality of life and presumably committed to the University and New Mexico.
We like to throw the word "diversity" around in such a cavalier manner - why can't we see, appreciate and embrace what we have right here, then go outside to find whatever is lacking, to create a satisfactory mix for the improvement of UNM?
