Editor,
Fran Fraschilla was not a bad coach, he just didn't fit with the program. It was Rudy Davalos who bought into the Fraschilla hype. Fraschilla is gone and now so are two other potential coaches who both had expressed initial interest, but dropped out after speaking with Davalos.
Could Rudy possibly be a problem? Did Davalos chase away these two potential candidates? Might his smug, self-centered and pretentious attitude have caused concern with Dana Altman and Tim Floyd?
Did he come off to these two candidates like he did in a recent television interview with Mike Powers - that is, laid back, with a smirk on his face, appearing to be ready for a pedicure? He has been known to throw at least one hissyfit when a local barber refused to give the athletics director a free haircut.
Is there any reason whatsoever that Davalos, as the athletics director of a public institution, publicly announced his search was a secret, but somehow, almost like magic, everyone now seems to know the list? I wonder how any coach that accepts this job will feel knowing that he will be, at best, a third choice?
And how will any selected coach be able to deal with cool-handed Rudy? It is too bad that Fraschilla didn't work out, but it is a crying shame that Rudy persists.
