I want to thank the Daily Lobo for their March 1st article on the candidates' forum sponsored by UNM College Democrats.
We thank Brian Eagan and others for organizing the event and all students, faculty and staff who attended.
Gary and I would like to make one correction to the article. The gubernatorial candidates were asked tax questions, which I answered on behalf of Gary King - one about the death penalty and another about repealing the gross receipts tax on food.
Candidates for a different office were asked about their position on gay rights. For the record, I'd like to state that Gary King supports equal rights for everyone and supports adding sexual orientation to the Human Rights Act.
As a legislator he supported the Hate Crimes Bill that passed only to be vetoed by Governor Johnson.

Because of that veto, New Mexico remains one of only three states without legislation against hate crimes.
