The UNM track and field team ended the regular indoor season Saturday with several impressive individual performances at the Mountain T Invitational.

The men won four events and the women captured one in the non-scoring meet.

The win on the women's side was posted by Keren Sari-Bentzur in the long jump. She earned her second victory of the season with a season-best jump of 19 feet, 5.50 inches.

All four wins on the men's side came from the distance runners. Chris Orrell won his third race of 2002, taking the mile in a season-best time of four minutes, 4.48 seconds, while Joe Lopez captured the B section of the mile with a winning time of four minutes, 19.35 minutes. Cameron Clarke, running his first indoor 3,000-meter race, took first in the B section with a time of eight minutes 58.55 seconds.

The Lobos will now prepare for the 2002 Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Feb. 21.

The UNM baseball team continued its early season slide, losing two games to intra-state rival New Mexico State University this weekend.

The Lobos dropped to 2-7 on the young season, although they did pick up their second win in the three-game series against the Aggies.

UNM opened the series Friday with a 9-1 win on a stellar pitching performance from right-handed hurler James Vermilyea. He pitched eight innings, allowing one run while striking out nine batters.

But the Lobos could not build on the momentum, losing two heartbreaking games in NMSU's final at bat. Saturday, the Lobos lost a 15-inning thriller 4-3 when the Aggies' Jesse French hit a single to bring home the winning run.

In the series finale Sunday, NMSU won again in its final at bat when Coery Harrington hit a bases-loaded single with two outs to capture a 7-6 victory.
