The UNM softball team started the season in disappointing fashion this weekend, dropping two games and tying one in the Diamond Invitational at Lobo Field.
The Lobos fell 10-9 to the University of Mississippi and tied Indiana University 2-2 on Friday, then lost to Indiana 5-4 on Saturday.
The Lobos (0-2-1) were slated to play five games, but two of them were canceled due to inclement weather.
UNM got off to an early 6-0 lead against Ole Miss Friday before succumbing to the Rebels in the 11th inning after an impressive comeback.
Sophomore pitcher Amy Dumas earned her first loss of the season after pitching six and two-thirds innings of relief, allowing four runs on seven hits. Catcher Tiffani Chambers went two-for-four with three RBIs, while centerfielder Kelly Glass was two-for-four with one RBI and a run scored for the Lobos.
In the second half of the doubleheader, UNM and the Hoosiers were deadlocked at two when the game was called due to darkness. The game was officially scored as a tie and will not be replayed.
