Mexican Consul Juan Manuel Solana will speak about the impact of terrorism on U.S. and Mexican tourism and trade Wednesday from 5-7 p.m in Dane Smith Hall Room 225.
The free presentation, which is part of the Anderson Schools of Management Executive Speaker Series, will include discussion about barriers to the expansion of tourism and trade.
"The start of international direct flights by Mexico's Azteca Airlines and the lowering of travel barriers at the border will result in a significant increase in tourism and trade between New Mexico and Mexico," Solana said in a statement. "The new Ski New Mexico promotion in Mexico works well with the planned Azteca's flights."
Solana, whose background includes economics, finance, strategic planning and marketing, has worked at the World Bank, InterAmerica Development Bank, Mexican Small Business Administration System and Banco Mexico Somex. He also is an adviser to the president of Pemex, Mexico's biggest company that specializes in the oil and gas industry, in the areas of marketing and policy pricing.
Solana was a professor of macroeconomics at Universidad de Iberoamericano and said he feels a relationship with UNM is beneficial.
"There is so much that we can do together for economic development, trade, tourism and increased cultural understanding," Solana said. "I appreciate this opportunity to talk to the students."
