LETTER: Protest anti-choice exhibit

Editor,

As a student at UNM and an intern at New Mexico's chapter of the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League, the political arm of the pro-choice movement, I am writing to encourage students and faculty to protest the anti-choice exhibit that will be on campus from Feb. 18-21.

I do not deny the organization Justice For All its First Amendment rights, but I am opposed to their tactics that involve deception, coercion and intimidation. After the Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision granted women the legal right to have an abortion in 1973, women's reproductive freedom has been a highly debated issue in the government, the media and at our clinics.

So many motivated and talented women are left no choice but to focus their time and energies on the subject of choice because of groups such as Justice For All. Now, in the 21st century, isn't it time that we as a society acknowledge once and for all a woman's unrestricted right to make her own choices?

In the recent shadow of the lack of women's human rights in Afghanistan being exposed to the world, how can we demand any less? It is time for all of the courageous men and women for choice to come out at UNM and say no to the anti-choice agitators on campus.

It is time for women to have no doubts as to the extent of their legal freedoms.
