Editor,
There is nothing like the issue of abortion to get people all riled up, including myself. Before I begin I would like to praise everyone, pro-life and pro-choice, for writing in and getting his or her opinions heard on this very touchy subject. Now, on with the debate.
Is a fetus a human being? Is abortion morally wrong? Is abortion murder? Like it or not, these are questions to which no one has the answers. Asking these questions is like asking someone to prove there is a God. It is just not possible. The great thing about living in America is that we can ask questions like these and give each other the best answers that we can come up with. We have the opportunity to decide what we believe, believe what we want, and to choose to share our opinions with others. Even though abortion debates rarely get anything accomplished and just make a lot of people angry, at least we have the freedom to debate.
Freedom, then, is our greatest privilege. It is what living in America is all about. We have the right and the freedom to choose.
I have spent 10 years of my life in Catholic education. Believe me, I have been called everything from a lesbian to a baby-killer, just because I have some very liberal views, even though I have never had an abortion myself. What angers me most about most pro-lifers I have met is that they cannot distinguish between pro-choice and pro-abortion. Take the Justice for All display, for example. Just because I am not pro-life does not mean that I do not find these photos disturbing or upsetting. Actually, I find them quite sickening.
I am pro-choice. Do I think abortion is a good thing? Not necessarily. Will I ever have an abortion? Probably not. But I would still like to have the freedom to choose. See the difference?

On a final note, what is up with the College Republicans lately? Normally their representatives give pretty good arguments, but now they are stooping to cheap insults and chauvinistic behavior. I see nothing wrong with a lesbian protesting against the Justice for All display. I mean, what difference does it make if someone is straight or gay? She can still bear children and she is a woman, end of story.
And finally, to Mr. Adrian Martinez, rather than laughing at the "ridiculous lesbian protesters," I am laughing at you and your ignorance. You are a man and will never know what a woman goes through. So do not insult something that you will never fully understand.
