It would behoove Chris Welch to take a course in logic since his argument in Tuesday's edition of the Daily Lobo is full of holes. According to him, the only people who are concerned about the collapse of Enron, and its criminal practices, are liberals.
Scrutinizing our highest elected officials is a bipartisan trait. Mr. Welch has obviously forgotten about the witch trials against our former president regarding his private sex life, sponsored by our morally refined, upstanding Republican representatives.
Mr. Welch obviously lacks the imagination or insight that is necessary to understand why concerned citizens - liberals, centrists, conservatives and people who don't consider themselves aligned to any particular label - are appalled by the practices of one of the largest corporations in the United States.
When our vice president confers with top officials and CEO's of large energy corporations to rewrite and draft energy policies, it is the public's business who he meets with and what was said. After all, the burden of these policies, the money we spend to heat and cool our homes, rests upon our shoulders.
Do the citizens of our country want an energy policy that benefits those who supply energy or do we want policies that benefit the public and insure the growth of sustainable energy. It doesn't take a genius to understand that energy policies created by groups of people who benefit from these mandates don't serve the interests of the public.

Is it valid, then, to assume the vice president is guilty by association because he is unwilling to disclose relevant information to the public, especially when he has close ties to these giant energy corporations? No, it is not. But, if the vice president doesn't want to associate himself with the Enron spectacle, he shouldn't complain when the public or media grill him.
If Cheney has nothing to hide, he should come clean and tell the public what went on. I guess the Republicans should have overlooked Clinton's sexual trysts, because paybacks are a bitch.
