Editor,
I would like to ask all UNM Faculty, students and staff who vote locally to please consider voting yes for the APS School Improvement Bond and Mill Levy on Tuesday, Feb. 5.
The $117 million G.O. Bond will fund construction of: three new elementary schools, a new alternative middle school and land for a new high school - all to relieve overcrowding. It will also provide: a new computer for every teacher and every 10 students and connections to link every computer to the Internet.
The $74.8 million Mill Levy funds: roof, heating, cooling, flooring and parking lot repairs and other building improvements at every school across the district. Please see www.voteaps.com for details on where exactly each dollar will go and www.bernco.gov/clerk to find out where to vote.
Improved facilities at APS will lead to more students graduating from APS High Schools, instead of dropping out, who are better prepared to tackle college-level course work at UNM. Students need training on 21st century computers to be able to compete in the modern work force and in the modern research University.
Please vote yes for the future on Feb. 5.
