Editor,
When I was a student at Highland High School, I studied Latin and had the privilege of attending several lectures by Professor Berthold. His lectures were exciting, funny, meaningful and to the point. I remember looking forward to college and UNM if my classes were to be so lively. Since high school, I sadly have not had the chance to take one of Berthold's classes. Now, even more sadly, I may never have that chance.
I think it's quite sad that so many "patriotic" Americans are not quite sharp enough to understand Berthold's brand of humor. Perhaps they realize that they cannot grasp it, and therefore become scared and vengeful. I am not sure.
A good example of a "super patriot" like this would definitely be Brian Fritz. In his letter to the Daily Lobo, he actually suggests that Berthold be killed for his comment.
Fritz: I think maybe your fanatical patriotism would better be served in a Taliban-like government where ignorant masses can stone anyone for anything at will. But return to UNM first and please, please take a Philosophy 156 course. There you will learn the basics of occult themes such as logic, critical thinking and fallacies, for you, my friend, walk a slippery slope towards a poisoned well, not to mention the straw man that's involved.
So, Brian Fritz, next time you decide to sentence someone to death, please present more evidence than a trite dictionary definition and a quote. You need to link them together in a logical manner to prove what you believe. Until then, your writings have little more substance than fascist propaganda.

I personally hope that your cruel opinions find no sympathetic audience in what I hope is still a just and reasonable nation.
