Editor,
I was pleased to see the Daily Lobo's addition of Michael Carrasco to the ensemble of Daily Lobo columnists. For the first time, the Daily Lobo has a coherent conservative whose ideas do not come off as uninformed, which I say with all sincerity.
However, I wanted to put Mr. Carrasco's mind to rest. He desperately hopes that America will "realize that not all ideas or elements of other cultures are of equal merit." Apparently this mind frame is essential to final victory.
Well, the latest polls reflect that Americans are whole-heartedly supporting our efforts overseas. The conservative philosophy was "endangered" of being lost in recent years, yet recent events have guaranteed its existence for years to come.
You can sleep well tonight, Michael, America agrees with you.
Yet, something still makes me feel uncomfortable about the wording of the following phrase: "Islamic civilization is socially backward."

It makes me wonder, are we fighting a war on terrorism or a war on the religion of Islam? Is it a coincidence that the terrorists live within Islamic countries?
It's probably the same type of coincidence that caused the United States to support the Taliban economically within this past year and then wage war on them. I guess we used to support their "medievalist" standards but "not no mor" (grammatical error was intended to "hurt the reader's eyes," after all, what is political and religious dialogue if it's not solely for the well-educated). But I digress ...
Also, while I hate to bring up Berthold, his name was again mentioned. In fact, anyone who can bomb those who talk about Berthold, gets my vote. Any who, Carrasco made the excellent point that no one has defended his actual words and all apologies have been made.
So, if agreeing with the actual words of Professor Berthold is what's needed to make a statement, let me be the first to agree with his remark. In fact, I'm starting a club. Come join in with agreeing with Berthold's comment!
