LETTER: Bookstore back orders leave students in lurch

Editor,

The UNM Bookstore is a monopoly.

Here it is, the second week of school, and I'm still without my most important textbook. The teacher is assigning readings and we're having discussions, but I am silent through the class time. The book has been sold out for a week now, and the reorder shipment is "pending" the bookstore says. Pending what?

There are at least five other students in my class with the same problem. Then, it will surely take yet another 10 to 15 business days to get here and another week for them to decide to put it on the shelf.

I asked if there was any other textbook store I could purchase the book at and they replied, as if daring me to even try to find it somewhere else, bragging that they even order the books for the University of Phoenix and no one else would have it because it is a new edition.

So, I would like to thank the UNM Bookstore for both frustrating me and making me stay behind in my classes. Don't even get me started on the buy- back prices.
