Sports in brief

The UNM volleyball team ended its regular season schedule by splitting a pair of road games against Mountain West Conference foes.

The Lobos (5-19, 3-11 in the conference) defeated the University of Wyoming Friday in a five-game match to record its second road victory of the season, but lost to sixth-ranked Colorado State University Saturday in three straight sets.

UNM played a hard-fought match versus Wyoming, getting the victory by narrowly winning the fifth and deciding game 16-14. The Lobos split the first four games 30-24, 23-30, 30-27 and 19-30.

Senior Malena Thompson and junior Kelly Griffin led the way for the Lobos. Thompson recorded 22 kills and 14 digs to collect her sixth double-double of the season and Griffin contributed 58 assists and a career-high 21 digs to earn her eighth double-double of the season.

The Lobos are the seventh-seed in the conference tournament and will play against second-seeded University of Utah next week. The Utes beat UNM in both meetings earlier this season.

The UNM men's golf team finished in 13th place at the Long Cove Invitational in Hilton Head, S.C., this weekend.
