Editor,
In response to Bob Anderson's asinine proposal to cancel classes as a protest of U.S. military actions in Afghanistan, I would like to ask: are the students supposed to fall behind on their educations and schedules because of Bob Anderson's feelings?
I hate to serve a reality check, but the world does not operate on feelings. Blockbuster Video cannot close its doors before midnight if the staff experiences a shitty customer encounter. They cannot shut down because someone's feelings got bruised.
Furthermore, would Anderson's proposal prevent any further tragedies and save American lives? Or, is it just grandstanding? It sounds nice but has no substance behind it.
Lastly, I would like to remind Mr. Anderson of his obligations to the taxpayers and the students. If he wishes to resign his post and not teach his classes, that is his prerogative.
However, if he does so, he should repay the students and taxpayers a portion of his salary for abrogating his obligations to serve the students.

And that is exactly what will occur should classes be canceled for the remainder of the semester - an abandonment of responsibility to serve the students and the citizens of New Mexico.
