LETTER: Moderates not true Republicans

Editor,

I have never laughed so hard as I did while reading Louis Griego's silly letter. I would expect that kind of foolishness from a liberal, but Griego stated he once "registered with our organization" and, wait for it, "went to a couple of meetings." Oh goodness! He must be a true Republican if he went that far. All the same, let me try to speak for the group.

Calling the College Republicans "paranoid" is just plain tacky. "Paranoid" brings with it a connotation of being afraid.

We are not afraid of liberal ideas; rather we are the voice of reason on this campus. It isn't being paranoid when it is really happening. We are simply stating the obvious fact that UNM is a liberal university with a leftist-leaning establishment who promotes their agenda through the classroom.

It isn't rocket science to figure that out. Oh, but wait, Griego is a "moderate" Republican. I forgot.

Being a moderate means going with whatever opinion is popular one day and then switching to another when the mood strikes. Moderates change their minds like they change their underwear.

The term "wishy-washy" comes to mind here. Moderates are nothing more than cowards. They don't have the guts to stand tall and fight for what they believe in, so they simply go with the flow.

As far as "turning the UNM community from conservatism," I find that to be totally inaccurate and ignorant.

The liberal professors on this campus are already doing a perfectly good job of that. We are simply offering an alternative to all that.

We tell students what we stand for, and if they don't like it, oh well. Don't join our group. We don't sugarcoat things here. That is for the communists to do.

Our group must be doing something right; we outnumber most student organizations in membership.

Our party must not be doing too badly, either, Mr. Griego -- we got our candidate elected, and we control the House.

We are obsessed with liberal ideas on campus. That is a no-brainer. We are concerned with the way they are taught as doctrine and how conservative views are taught as evil. They must have already sunk their claws into you, Louis.

Our event was not "give" but "buy your girl a gun day." Anti-capitalism is already in your thoughts. We have to speak out against this.

Mr. Griego asked what was wrong with liberal thoughts prevailing on this campus. That is about the dumbest question I have ever heard. Would you care if racist thoughts prevailed on this campus?

To our group, liberalism is a scourge, and we don't mind speaking against it.

With those kinds of views, Mr. Griego, it is easy to see why you are a "moderate." I take it from your letter that you are a no longer a member of our group.

While we are disappointed to see our members drop one by one, I can assure you that you haven't been missed.
