Editor,
Shame on you Daily Lobo!
Even though they are called columns, you still have a duty to check the facts and make sure you are not publishing pulp fiction. The column of Maceo Carrillo Martinet was right about one thing: " ... let's really try to be honest about our history."
I don't know where Maceo learned U.S. history, but most Europeans were not "forced" to come to this country, nor were they "forced" into indentured servitude.
In fact, indentured servants made up a very small portion of the colonial population and the majority of all immigrants to the U.S. came willingly.
In addition this country was not founded on " ... the sweatshop and cotton-field labor of millions of immigrants and slaves ... " Historically, most of America's workers have been independent farmers and crafts people.

Maceo goes on to give a long list of similar inaccuracies and false statements, and even attributes five million starving Afghans to our war on terrorism. What were they eating before Sept. 11?
After reading the piece I came away with two questions: What the hell was your point and what are your recommendations?
It's hard to take seriously anyone who complains that "Culture nowadays is largely reduced to entertainment," having previously cited the "great rapper" Mos Def.
If you don't have anything worthwhile to print, sell some more advertisements.
