Editor,
While I empathize and understand the frustration that students who are challenged physically may have with bicycles locked to railings and benches, I see the problem more as one with the removal of pre-existing bike racks than rogue students with bikes bent on making others' lives more difficult.
The bike racks that were below Dane Smith Hall provided ample space for bicycles to be locked up.
They are now gone, and suddenly people started locking their bikes to whatever was available instead of having their primary, or for some, only means of transportation, stolen. These bike racks should not have been removed until the "improved devices" were ready to be installed.
Also, the bike racks by Centennial Library are a joke, not to mention shin busters.
Why not replace those lame bike racks with the "improved devices" instead of removing ones that worked perfectly below Dane Smith Hall?

Cyclists should be thanked for reducing traffic, pollution and parking problems, not punished for the foolish decision to remove bicycle racks.
