Editor,
The Nov. 14 Daily Lobo was packed full of diatribes about how ASUNM sucks and how the Daily Lobo sucks. The fact is that they both suck a little. What I take issue with is a column that entirely mispresents what actually happens on campus. Jesse Mu§iz's column did just that.
Mr. Mu§iz launched into ridiculous attacks of ASUNM that have no basis in reality. He wrote that students cannot come to ASUNM meetings to speak their minds on the myriad of topics facing our campus. In fact, one of the first items on any ASUNM agenda is speaking time for members of the gallery. Mr. Mu§iz also whined that the Senate isn't "around campus notifying the student body about meetings and agendas coming up."
ASUNM always has open meetings and often advertises them in the Lobo. In addition, every member of the Senate holds weekly office hours on campus just so students can have the opportunity to come speak their minds.
Mr. Mu§iz makes offensive generalizations about the make-up of ASUNM and the make-up of its constituency. He himself acknowledges that he has no empirical data supporting his arguments. His assumptions are carelessly conceived and foolish.
If Mr. Mu§iz, and the rest of the student body for that matter, took the time to learn about ASUNM, they would find an organization that, while imperfect, has the best interests of students at heart.
