Editor,
We've been buried neck deep in controversy over Professor Berthold's recent comment. So he made a bad joke? So what?
So he made a tasteless joke. So what?
So he made an offensive joke? So what?
So he made a joke that hurt many people's feelings. So what?
So he made a joke that deeply insulted many people's pride in their nation. So what?

Get over it people.
Here's the crux of it all. We've been hearing more about Berthold than we've been hearing about the Taliban, Osama, Pakistan and Bush combined. Don't you think that says something?
I attended the Faculty Senate meeting on Tuesday just to hear what people would say, but I was most amazed that the meeting took place at all, or more to the point, that actions were set into motion against Berthold required such a meeting in the first place.
People accuse the United States of being trivially petty.
The world saw us as a joke when we got so riled up over Clinton's intern screening process. It would be nice to think that after this tragedy we might come back down to Earth and join the rest of the world in reality, but it appears that is not the case.
Just my thought on all of this: Get over it!
