Gary Davis of the football team and senior Malena Thompson of the volleyball team are the New Mexico Daily Lobo Athletes of the Week.
Davis, a senior linebacker, made a career-high 13 tackles and three sacks in helping the football team beat the University of Wyoming 30-29 Saturday to end a three game losing streak.
Thompson had her third double-double of the season when she contributed 13 kills and 10 digs in the Lobos 3-1 victory over the Air Force Academy Friday to end a 10-game skid.
Sophomore Matt Gonzales led the UNM men's cross-country team to an impressive victory in the Arizona State Invitational Saturday, while the women's team placed sixth.
Gonzales won his first meet as a Lobo and helped the UNM men win their second meet in three events this season. The Lobos placed six runners in the top-20 with Gonzales winning the 8,000-kilometer meet with a time of 25 minutes, 32 seconds. Sophomore Chris Orrell finished a close second, finishing six seconds behind. Freshman Cameron Clarke had his best meet as a Lobo, finishing fifth. Rounding out the top-20 finishers were sophomore Ben Ortega, senior Travis Clark and sophomore Sean Flaherty, who finished 15th through 17th, respectively.
Running in its first 5,000-kilometer of the season, the UNM women's team finished sixth in the 11-team field. Senior Kim Baca finished in 25th-place with a time of 20 minutes, 11 seconds to pace the Lobos. Second-ranked Stanford University won the meet on the women's side.

The UNM women's golf team looks to win its second-straight tournament to start the season when it travels to Corvallis, Ore., to take part in the Shanico Invitational today through Wednesday.
After winning the 23rd Annual Comcast/Dick McGuire Invitational Sept. 14-15, the Lobos will try to continue their good play against a field of 18 teams.
The Lobos recent play has them ranked 12th in the country after starting the season unranked.
The tournament will consist of 18 holes played on each day.
