Sophomore Sandy Lukowski of the women's tennis team and the men's rugby team are the New Mexico Daily Lobo Athletes of the Week.
Lukowski took second place in singles play at the Coors Light Lobo Invite. She won three matches, without losing a set, before losing in the championship match 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). Lukowski also placed third in the doubles draw with teammate Courtney Choate.
The men's rugby team defeated the El Paso Scorpions 40-12 Saturday afternoon at the Albuquerque Sports Stadium. The Lobos used a group of mostly freshmen and sophomores to overpower the Scorpions, an El Paso professional team. UNM had dropped its last two games to the Scorpions and are ranked fourth in the Western Division of USA Rugby, which includes about 50 teams.
