Editor,
Let us set aside, for the moment, all the polemics and concentrate on facts:
1. On Nov. 29, 1947, the United Nations voted to create Israel and a Palestinian state. The Arabs declared that they will “drown this plan in rivers of blood,” which was announced by an Arab League representative at that session.
2. The Arabs proceeded to carry out their threat, with a series of wars — to this very day.
They succeeded partially: in 1948, Egypt occupied the Gaza strip, and Jordan the West Bank, thus putting an end to the Palestinian-state-to-be.
3. Ever since, the Arabs/Palestinians have been acting with one goal in mind: to destroy Israel. In English, they may say conciliatory words. In Arabic, through their media, schools and mosques, they preach the destruction of Israel.

Arafat assured Arab diplomats in Europe, during the Oslo negotiations, that the true purpose was to eliminate Israel.
A “moderate” Palestinian leader like Faisal Husseini declared, “Our ultimate goal is one Palestine, from the (Jordan) river to the (Mediterranean) sea.”
A sixth grade schoolbook, published by the Palestinian Authority is titled, “Falastine (Palestine) — our country,” with the subtitle “there is no alternative but to eliminate Israel.”
The answer?
Get the Arabs/Palestinians to accept the United Nations resolution of 1947, guaranteeing a Palestinian state — provided they accept and respect the independent existence of Israel and renounce, once and for all, their fiendish plans to destroy it.
Back up this solution with acceptance with international support and guarantees.
Then, sit back and watch peace break out in the Middle East.
