`Non-politicians' not ready for mayor's office

Editor,

As a frequent contributor to this opinion page, my favorite target has been Gary Johnson.

When Johnson leaves office, I want every New Mexican to remember the antics, failures, dissension and havoc this governor created and then never elect another "non-politician."

It takes more than a slogan like "People Before Politics" to be an effective public servant. Government should not be run like a business. The science of public administration exists to run an efficient and effective government.

Someone who has served as a public employee or who has had five to 10 years of experience on boards and commissions can develop the background to be an elected official.

Being arrogant does not qualify you to be mayor. We are seeing the problem with Mike McEntee unravel in his twin's life - Greg Payne. The two were Gary Johnson's campaign managers in Bernalillo County and figure they are owed something.

Non-politicians such as Rick Homans shouldn't be allowed to buy their way into public office. Just say no on your ballot to these non-politicians.

A few politicians come with great ideas. Most do not.

Good politicians are just able to find out what the majority of people want and then give it to them. Many new politicians come into office with preconceptions about what is wrong or how to fix things.

Look at the advertising for the mayor's campaign. Most of the things the candidates want to fix, the school board or the state control. Their noble goals of reduced spending, a reduction in the size of government and less regulations all have little meaning without the prior government experience to implement them.
