Editor,
With all the opinions being expressed by faculty and students concerning Professor Berthold's lecture material, I feel something should be said from the point of view of someone who attended the lectures.
Yates' accusations printed in Wednesday's Daily Lobo concerned a lecture topic about the ancient Greeks less inhibited ideas of sexuality, which they express in many forms. Their art included nudity, male actors in comic plays often wore oversized representation of genitalia and their weapons had a phallic quality. Berthold aimed to shed light on the ancient Greeks' way of life with historical facts.
As for his remarks on the Sept. 11 tragedy, I thought they were sarcastic, but UNM shouldn't fire one of it's best history teachers for a poorly timed remark that's been take out of context.
