Refunds chance to prove our fiscal responsibility

Editor,

By now, if you were a responsible taxpayer, and your parents did not claim you as a dependant last year, you may have been informed that you will receive a tax refund as a result of the Bush administration's tax cut. Many on Capitol Hill think that this tax cut is dangerous and not fiscally responsible.

But is giving people back their own money fiscally irresponsible?

If you thought a tax cut was wrong or put your money where your mouth is.

If you are interested in helping the poor, cut them a check! Want to help medical research, write a check!

Even consider helping your own family it is in need.

If you are interested in stimulating the economy, well, do what most people are going to do - spend it!

Use it to pay bills, books, credit card bills, food, gas, clothing or about one fifth of a computer. Buying more computers will help Gateway employees keep their jobs.

My $230 will go toward a couch for my new apartment that I could not have afforded at this time without the assistance of this money. It's not charity, but I am sure J.C. Penney workers from executives down to stockers count on people like me to help them keep their jobs.

The point I am trying to make is that our money can go a long way. Money does not solve all the world's problems, but it can put food on a plate, a roof over a head, clothing on a back or water in a cup. With this money, we can put our own ideals in motion; show America that we can be fiscally responsible.
