Editor,
I swear, even as college students, we are always looking for some excuse to get out of class.
I found it quite irritating that students were protesting the recent tuition increase Tuesday afternoon. It seems more like a reason to ditch class than an actual concern. I can almost guarantee that students wouldn't have even noticed the new tuition rate had there been no news reported on it.
What students need to remember is that our tuition circulates the system to pay faculty and staff, student employment, activities and yes, funds for our beloved Lobo athletics. Also, most college students would kill to have the UNM tuition rate as most public universities range $4-6,000 a semester, even for residents.
We have a great campus, great academics, some outstanding instructors and many other things that we take for granted - especially for the price we pay to go here. So the next time you find an excuse to ditch class, why don't you show your instructor the respect they deserve instead of protesting against giving them a very small raise.
