Tiana Thompson of the San Carlos Apache tribe performs a traditional Apache dance during the talent portion of the Miss Indian World Paegant 2001 at the Highland Theater Thursday. Thompson was one of 24 competitors for the title in the kickoff event for the annual Gathering of Nations celebration. Most of the contestants traveled from outside New Mexico to compete for the title and participate in the world’s largest pow wow.
