Editor,
It is unbelievable to me that we have this same discussion on cockfighting in our Legislature every year. That this barbarism is allowed in New Mexico and two other states is reprehensible.
Proponents of cockfighting call it a sport. Cockfighting is no more a sport than throwing Christians to the lions was a sport. One of our legislators said that kids would see more violence on TV than they would at a cockfight. I would suggest to that twit that the violence on TV is fake, but two chickens slashing each other to ribbons with razor blades is absolutely real. I would also say that anyone who takes a child to a cockfight is guilty of child abuse.
Another person said that cockfighting is part of our "tradition." What kind of tradition glorifies animals mutilating each other? Burning witches used to be a "tradition," but we got over it.
Cockfighting is brutal, deplorable, incredibly cruel and absolutely barbaric. We need to get rid of any of our legislators who support this heinous so-called "sport." New Mexico needs to join the civilized world and outlaw cockfighting.
